Phos-Brite 252

Dip tank iron phosphating compound

Description

Phos-Brite 252 is a multi-metal iron phosphating compound designed for blackening of steel in a hot dip tank. This product:

  • Cleans the metal of oil, grease and dirt.

  • Removes oxidation from the metal surface.

  • Conditions the surface for phosphate deposit.

  • Deposits a controlled amount of phosphate on the surface.

  • Protects treated parts from corrosion.

  • Provides a base for paint adhesion or lubricant retention.

Phos-Brite 252 incorporates superior surfactants and activators to produce smooth and uniform phosphate coating ( 50-150 milligrams per square foot ) in a one step process. When properly applied, the phosphate coating will have a black or grey colour on cold or hot rolled steel. This compound does not contain zinc or manganese and is completely non-hazardous and biodegradable.

Directions

PRESSURE WASHER OR STEAMER – Use at 0.2 - 0.5% at 150 °F or higher. Apply for 30 - 90 seconds, alternating sides to prevent streaking.

SPRAY OR TUNNEL WASHERS – Use Phos-Brite 251 to avoid foaming problems.

DIP TANK – use at 1 - 10 %, at 150 - 200 °F. 5 - 30 minutes exposure time is required, depending on the type of metal and coating weight desired.

Caution

Phos-Brite 252 contains phosphoric acid. Use gloves and goggles when handling this product in its concentrated form. Spent solution can be flushed into the sewer after testing for acidity and heavy metal concentration.
